* Join us for our last meeting this semester on the intriguing topic of Simple Living - High Thinking. Reflections on Vedic nutrition concepts and life-style on Wednesday, 18. Dec. 24, at 12.15 h in room KOL-H-317, Rämistrasse 71, 8006 Zürich.

The Vedic nutrition concept is a whole-body system, focusing on the physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being of people. Its essence lies in a sustainable diet which enhances a clear consciousness and steady determination. In Ayurveda different dynamic principles (Doshas) determine one’s personality and health. When balanced, they maintain and strengthen the human physical systems.

In today's economically and technologically advanced world the need for a healthy and sustainable diet is very much appreciated and factually in growing demand. People understand more and more that in order to have a prosperous society, as well as for their individual life, a natural sustainable diet is essentiell.

And to top it off, a sustainably uplifting free veggie meal will be served … and a special Xmas surprise.

The Bhagavad-gītā (Gītā Upanisad) is one of the foremost Sanskrit textbooks, comprising the essential philosophical topics and spiritual techniques of Vedic thoughts and culture. It elaborates on the timeless intriguing subject matters of humankind - eg. mind-control, meditation, yoga, self-realization (𝑎̄𝑡𝑚𝑎̄ 𝑗𝑛̃𝑎̄𝑛𝑎), activities (𝑘𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑎), nature (𝑝𝑟𝑎𝑘𝑟̣𝑡𝑖), time (𝑘𝑎̄𝑙𝑎) and the Supreme Absolute Truth (𝑖̄𝑠́𝑣𝑎𝑟𝑎) - and its practical applications in one’s life which are especially relevant even more in today’s modern times.

Knowing where you stand and how things around you are, is of most crucial importance to “succeed”. This talk will highlight the importance of being one with the universe around you and fully embracing reality, the good, the bad, and the ugly! Radical acceptance precisely means being fully embraced with the life you have and who you are. Pain isn’t the enemy, fear of pain is, if one embraces the pain (s)he can set themselves free. A fulfilled life is not an easy life. Don’t we all want when we lie on our dead beds, look back and be proud of what an amazing life we lived?

Everyone is looking for happiness, which finds its peak in loving exchanges. But what does "love" mean in the first place and how would you differentiate it from lust? What is unconditional love?
One of four 'principles of community building' by a very powerful African monk and leader says: " Think of the person you love the most and aspire to treat everyone with the same quality of love."
When I read this first, I was very touched by this advice. But I laughed at it and thought that this is absolutely impossible to put into practice. These words accompanied myself for a while now and I couldn't imagine how incredible the impact of such a mindset would be.

Yamuna was born in Vietnam, her parents were familiar with the Vedic tradition and practiced its culture, conveying to her from childhood years the basic principles while staying in Mayapur (India).
In 2021 after one year of studies at PHZH, she took leave for a year in order to dive deeper into spirituality. Since then she continuously intensified her practical real 'life-studies', which finally led to her personal commitment in early June.

Human beings have the free will to decide on their actions, whether to do things in a certain way or not. With every action comes the responsibility of coping with its result. According to Newton's Third Law of Motion each action has an equal and opposite reaction. Is this law also applicable to our daily activities? How does its influence manifest in our daily life - if at all. Are we liable for our actions even on a more subtle level than just on the gross physical level. What influences do our actions have on our consciousness?

About the speaker: Georg M. Hilbi is an alumnus of University of Zurich, holding a PHD in Art History. After extensive travels around the globe researching human art legacies and culture his main emphasis consists in promoting intercultural discourses incorporating Vedic culture and its scientific approach to existential human necessities.

Yoga is no longer a word foreign to the West but has very much found its way into colloquial language and the local culture. Still the traditional background, the philosophical implications and applications in every day life are rather sparsely delved into. We want to change this by elaborating on what yoga is traditionally and how it is of relevance for you and me today. By learning to become conscious about our internal lives we can then overcome lower, impulsive behaviour and thus become free to connect with our true selves and the Supreme. In this way the different yoga paths open fascinating perspectives on the functions of body, mind and soul.

About the speaker: Lukas Stöckli holds a Bachelor degree in Religious Studies from the UZH. For the past three years he has been living as a monk and has intensely focused on applying the teachings of yoga in his day to day life. Being a certified Hatha-Yoga as well as Bhakti-Yoga teacher, he likes to share the knowledge and practice with interested people.
